It was also the goal to design a seminar that would assist pastors in this task. Recognizing the biblical mandate which we have been given, the decline in attendance within the Canadian church and the needs of contemporary mankind, there was and is justification for pursuing this task. Through research and a survey sent to 300 Canadian churches information was gleaned which described how pastors felt about their seminary training and their ability in preaching to a post-modern society. Canadian statistics prove that the Canadian Evangelical church is in an unhealthy state. It was determined that if pastors were to give energy to the task of preaching with relevance and if the structures of the church would support such preaching then there was hope that by the enabling of the Holy Spirit the Canadian church could grow again. Attention was given to three areas: (1) Interpreting a survey given to Canadian pastors and evaluating their abilities on preaching to the unchurched; (2) Various ways that pastors could attract unchurched people into their congregations; and (3) Answering the two most pressing questions which pastors wished their homiletical training had equipped them for: (1) Help me to understand how the audience is thinking; (2) What tools do I need to communicate with the different generations?"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131757989330944,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:34.894Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:29:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cd924448-d3bb-495b-a29f-23b806dcc5dd","accessControl_ssim":["214063a0-028f-4aa7-aad4-44090131d8d6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Can lay leaders at OakWood Church successfully identify, make informed decisions about solving, and accept ownership for the solutions to key missional problems in the area of outreach?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:01:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["01c2bbab-9a3b-43ed-b7ca-ae8ab43d39db"],"hasLease_ssim":["f832fbf6-5c3d-4689-ab78-517c21904b23"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul D Borden"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David R Sheppard"],"publisher_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Evangelistic work","Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project examined whether lay leaders could engage in effective group problem solving by identifying obstacles to numerical growth at OakWood Church, proposing solutions to those obstacles, and accepting ownership for their solutions. The study has been especially selected to help pastors/leaders in growing churches and also in counterbalancing an increasingly strong charismatic influence in the Baptist congregations in the Penang area. This project will be conducted during a time frame of thirty-two hours of seminary-class training for the students of Penang Baptist Seminary and any leaders of Penang-area Baptist congregations who desire to enroll in the class. The thirty-two hours of class time will be delivered during a two-week period consisting of four hours a day, Tuesday through Friday of each week. The goals are that not only will the leaders become trained but that they will return to their respective congregations and lead similar classes/seminars. The lay members of the churches, therefore, will be more knowledgeable about these biblical teachings and less vulnerable to false teachings. The receptive churches will become stronger because members will be practicing their spiritual gifts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133114762788864,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:14:08.814Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:49:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ac33a69b-e055-4224-bdb4-92f70dead7ee","accessControl_ssim":["b8172ade-3dfa-40cd-8d87-b38f4cce3e18"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'Whether we live or whether we die we are the Lord's': an educational program for the training of volunteer companions for the dying in a church-related long-term care setting"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["460fb368-4ea8-4cfc-ba87-0d0d88f9fbdf"],"hasLease_ssim":["fd5b1f67-d3dc-4fdd-a1ec-d4c6fd18a0f1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"additional_rights_info_tesim":["Robert D Webber"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The problem is addressed in this project through interviews of professors of homiletics and biblical studies as well as parish ministers, to discover the basic bridges used to move from the English text into the original languages and then forward to the preaching or teaching event. Groundwork is presented analyzing the basic hermeneutical question of what may be lost in translating the biblical languages across vastly different cultures over a time-span of two thousand years or more. This research focuses on the work of James Barr and Eugene Nida. The interview research of professors and ministers reveals numerous bridges for productively moving from the original text forward into preaching and teaching. Implications and cautions for preaching and teaching are presented, along with a summary of useful resources. The process was tested by parish ministers. From athletic endurance on a football field to intense concentration in a chess match, to Olympic figure skating, people are drawn to a contest. The Apostle Paul understood this human tendency when he used the theme of running a race in I Cor. 9:24-27 to exhort the Corinthian believers to Christian excellence. The purpose of this project is to create a motivating and challenging approach to discipleship at Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Grand Prairie, Texas. It will involve teaching seven to twelve people biblical principles of discipleship tailored around Paul's racing metaphor. The writer hopes that the process will result in a greater interest and participation in active ministry within the local church. The project will consist of ten lessons which will be taught on a weekly basis as a part of the regular Wednesday night program and a concluding session which will incorporate a Sunday evening service allowing participants to minister and testify. Each lesson will teach an area of discipleship and will include both written and hands-on ministry assignments. Lessons will also include an evaluative mechanism which will illustrate both cognitive understanding of the material covered in class as well as show increased involvement in functional ministry. A group ministry project will also be developed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132603876638720,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:06:01.594Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:45:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f17a3945-76f7-4a80-b230-a1d9f7cfc713","accessControl_ssim":["30e00cfd-eec8-4101-847b-07d145742fa5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A dialogue between Pauline perspectives on behavior and the cognitive-behavioral methods used in a children's social and emotional skills group program"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:40:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:01:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c4f1f24a-699a-4e43-ab38-61280b106f65"],"hasLease_ssim":["ec059394-c9f1-4f76-97af-93042d8185cd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Hogue"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Brad W Schwall"],"publisher_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Social psychology","Child development"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This research project provides a dialogue between Pauline perspectives on behavior and the cognitive-behavioral techniques used in a children's social skills group program. The study examines John Knox Presbytery (a presbytery of 64 churches and 105 resident ministers located in the upper Midwest region along a stretch of the Mississippi River involving portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa), in which attempts are being made to develop a community of clergy through gatherings of clergy for worship, education, development and support. The challenge facing John Knox Presbytery is to develop a community of mutually caring and supportive clergy among its now loosely associated minister members."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128694631170049,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:03:53.448Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
