Appointed or elected leaders in churches affiliated with CBAmerica were participants. The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (1974) was used in this study, measuring competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding and accommodating conflict management styles. The biographical information sheet collected data relating to sex, age, length of Christian experience, length of church membership and length of leadership. The majority of leaders surveyed had been Christians for fifteen or more years. This group scored low in the competing mode, and high in the avoiding mode. It posits the paradox that people yearn for relationships (connections) with others yet keep themselves out of relationship (disconnected) because of hurtful past experiences. Case presentations show how key concepts of object relations theory--transference, countertransference, the unconscious, and resistance--can be reframed in a relational context to enable authentic and growth-fostering connections for both client and therapist. The first section explores a biblical theology of ministry. Focused on the principle of salvation by grace, the information will deal with how believers are saved and become holy, their relationship to the church and one another plus principles for carrying out the four tasks of ministry. Youth ministers have the incredible opportunity to become involved in the identity formation process at a crucial junction of human development. Understanding the process of identity formation is essential. This paper will also provide an overview of that process. The theology of ministry and theory of identity formation are the foundation of youth ministry. The third section will address the goal of youth ministry: the development of a truly Christian identity. In addition, this section will also present principles that are universally applicable to youth ministry. The program laid an infrastructure for workers, communicated the need, and recruited workers for ministry by assisting church members in overcoming barriers that hindered them from becoming involved.  Both scriptural teachings and motivational theories were considered when developing this strategy. Scripture was presented that demonstrated how men of faith often wrestled with fulfilling God's plan. On the basis of scripture, it is demonstrated that God has both created people for ministry as well as shapes them through spiritual gifts, heart burdens, abilities, personality, and experiences. A seminar is outlined which helps Christians identify their God-given design. The model proposes that at each self-narrative temporal level it is possible to distinguish qualitative differences in the distinctness of identity, the complexity of causality, the breadth of perspective, and the nature of efficacy. It drew on bodies of literature from Twelve Step traditions, addiction and shame, Object Relations Theory, and Roman Catholic pastoral tradition.  Results showed that the model/program was very helpful to participants.
