Five double-blind experiments using written exercises tested that hypothesis in small groups at Four Oaks Community Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Questionnaires, focus groups, and interviews further explored the plausibility of the hypothesis. Neither the quantitative nor the qualitative measures were able to establish the hypothesis conclusively. Yet there have been few established norms or standards for this practice. This study has been undertaken in an effort to identify and explore meaningful proclamation of the Word with children. Initial explorations include a theological and biblical rationale for the children's sermon, focusing on pertinent Old and New Testament texts. The study describes the meaning of Christian worship and includes a section on the importance of including children in worship and a discussion of what children bring to worship. This research supports a hermeneutic for children by presenting objections to children's sermons and defining the nature of a sermon. The hermeneutic centers on the theory of multiple intelligences developed by Howard Gardner. The study concludes that a children's sermon contributes to the unity of worship, is a form of catechesis, a conversation, and an agent of awe. Appropriate language and concepts for the sermon are suggested. A workshop model concludes the study. It presents the results of the research in a six hour format which is inductive and participatory. It is designed for all who have an interest in strengthening the children's sermon. Pitfalls in the children's sermon are highlighted. This conflict relates to the music employed by congregations in their liturgies. In our work, we show that the problem they encounter is not a theological one, as some leaders claim, but a cultural type. Our thesis is that both the 1930's and 1990's hymnodies of the Disciples in Puerto Rico reflect the Christian hope of its members during critical moments. Although with different theological approaches, the final purpose of both hymnodies is the same: the proclamation of a message of salvation. Our study is mostly descriptive with an explanatory goal regarding particular human behavior. Three resources were used to attain our goal: an analysis of the social and economic realities of Puerto Rico; popular knowledge gathered through interviews; and the new hymn book published for the Hispanic churches by the Christian Board of Publications in the United States. Our dissertation proposes a strategy formulation to reduce the tension but also to propitiate positive changes within any given congregation. After completion of the project, participating recipients were prepared to make the transition. A sequence of learning events were developed for their spiritual growth and leadership skills.  A Pro-Active Research Method and the Reflection-Action Model helped the pastor and leaders analyze the congregation's needs which led to action plans for proclamation and social services.  The Research Model afforded the pastor and leaders to make decisions based on their assessment of community needs. Olsen in his Worshipful work, is convinced that congregations are hungering for more than simply 'business as usual' at church session meetings. In this project, the issue of developing a viable alternative model for session meetings is focused upon a particular church that is located in rural northeast Missouri. With this understanding, workshops on Charles Olsen's book Transforming church boards into spiritual leaders, community, discernment, and leadership were conducted with the session members. From these workshops, it was determined that the objection to any change, the church being seen as a business, and the desire for quick meetings were some of the more obvious obstacles to the success of the alternative model. The result of the project was the session voted to adapt some of the characteristics of the alternative model for a period of six months to see how it would work in this church. The tool served as a catalyst for building awareness and encouraging change. It provided a means by which couples could listen to each other concerning their shared needs and aspirations for marriage. At the outset of the project it was anticipated that couples would experience an increase in their level of marriage satisfaction. This proved not to be true in the manner expected.
