Using a feminist approach to qualitative methodology, nine diaconal ministers were interviewed to examine their reasons for choosing ordination.  Personal and systemic reasons emerged, including sense of calling, need for education and employment security, career development, contextual influences and church policies. Sexism and the marginalization of diaconal ministers were factors. Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church developed a model for leadership training in our multiracial, multiethnic, multicultural congregation. This paper includes an examination of historical and contemporary attitudes toward integration.  The model for leader development assures leadership diversity and access to power by newer members. Shame can be unhealthy when it takes the form of abusive 'shaming' behavior.  This thesis examines honor/shame from theological, biblical, socio-anthropological, and family systems perspectives.  Interventions include Bible study, worship, a task force to study the history and mission of the church, group norms for church officers, and a book review/discussion group.  These interventions or similar ones tailor-made for a particular congregation can be applied effectively in other locations. This project proposes an assimilation plan based on adult Sunday school classes reorganized into life stage communities. These communities will provide a network of care and ministry. Eleven classes were involved. Two of the classes were chosen to pilot the plan. Of the remaining nine classes, six embraced the plan in a limited manner and three resisted change. The thesis is that there is a need for greater cooperation between the medical community and the church.  Screening and education performed in church stetting would be a help to both parishioners and doctors.  Questionnaires used revealed interest among clients and volunteers.  On that basis, a clinic was begun and observed for a period of two months.  The project demonstrated that health-related screening and education was of benefit to both medical and church communities. The project sought to gain information by giving a force field analysis survey to ten Assembly of God churches.  From their response to the survey relevant curricula could be developed to prepare people for urban ministry.  The project demonstrated favorable results as the survey was given successfully. The theological section examines the background of Proverbs and compares it with other wisdom literature of the ancient world. Included is a segment on the unique literary genre of Proverbs. The structure of the book and the theology of wisdom is also analyzed in this chapter. The theoretical chapter investigates the hermeneutical principles particular to Proverbs. Determining paragraphs, using rhetorical analysis, and patterns in wisdom literature is thoroughly discussed. Filtering the selected text through six interpretive principles is key to this section. The chapter concludes by developing a framework for constructing expository sermons. The culmination of theological and theoretical sections is an actual course designed to teach expository preaching from Proverbs. It is intended as a college or seminary elective homiletics course. Included with the lesson plans are 10 sermons on Proverbs for the purpose of classroom instruction and personal study.
