This study accepted that connection and investigated whether or not a connection existed between church growth and sermon schedule planning based upon primarily the Revised Common Lectionary.  The hypothesis of the study was, the use of the Lectionary as the primary tool for determining sermon schedule planning is not the most beneficial for church growth.  Measurement of church growth was 1.0 percent increase/decline in average worship attendance over a three to four year period.  Personal interviews conducted with thirty preachers inquired about sermon scheduling, preparation and motivation.  Statistical information on attendance came from conference journals.  The preachers and churches studied all pertain to the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. The findings of the study could not conclusively support or refute the hypothesis.  The findings did support a strong connection between sermon scheduling at least a month in advance and increased worship attendance.  Rick Warren's purpose driven church principles were found to be a positive influence upon growing churches in the annual conference. We chose to become involved in T-NET with the hope that we could better equip our participating leaders to understand and carry out their responsibility to guide and serve the church. Early in the process we sensed the need to adjust and this paper records the reorientation of our thinking on the priorities of ministry. Chapter one covers how e developed disciplemaking values in our church using the phases of discipleship evident in the ministry of Jesus. Chapter two describes and assesses our leadership training model. Chapter three contains an honest look at our outreach groups and an extensive description of our launch of a new Adult Bible Fellowship. The final chapter estimates the number of groups that Riverview will need as we continue to develop our ministry. Revival is defined and the need for it is considered from current literature and information gathered from a survey of 343 pastors in the city. revival in the Scripture is studied, concluding that the context and content of 2 Chr 7:14 is its core. ten characteristics of biblical revival are identified and traced through the Scripture and five counterparts in history. The material was specifically designed to train laymen at Trinity Baptist Church in Ocala, Florida where the writer is pastor. It is adaptable, however. One of the major goals of the curriculum was to be more practical than technical. This thesis is written out of the conviction that preaching has fallen on difficult times in a secular, media-saturated society. Nevertheless, the preaching task remains the primary means of proclaiming God's message to the world. The church must do a better job of utilizing lay people in the task of proclamation and train them to teach and apply God's Word in a relevant and interesting way. This two hour, ten session curriculum provides a workable tool to meet this need. The emphasis is expository preaching evolving from inductive Bible study. Theological and biblical foundations are given in support of expository preaching. A literature review is included to support the important elements related to the study and preparation of a biblical message and to provide further information and resources for trainers who might use these materials. Despite this fact, there is no accessible, up to date source of recorded history. This dissertation attempts to address that need. This will be done by writing a concise history of North Carolina Baptists that will condense over three hundred years into thirty pages. Following this, a script will be written in order to convert this concise history into a video for our image conscious culture. A deficiency in understanding of North Carolina Baptist history will be documented using two tools. One, a survey of the ministerial employees of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina will be compared with the same survey given to key leaders in North Carolina Baptist life. A second tool used will be phone interviews with leading Baptist educators and historians at institutions of higher learning in North Carolina supported by North Carolina Baptists.
