It reviews the history and theology of the diaconate as the living symbol of the servant nature of the Christian Church.  The project uses andragogical principles of education in a series of monthly workshops.  The project shows that this model has potential as an effective method of training. The results of this study are incorporated in further theological reflection.  The concluding chapter outlines a proposed model for future church relations programs.  This model consists of seven foundational principles and five practical suggestions. Taking seriously both the delphi study and the Lutheran doctrine of the two kingdoms, the model challenges the agency to engage in church relations as a theological task which requires political strategy. The report covers a period of one year.  Reflections are presented for each monthly session. Approximately twenty persons attended each meeting.  The project reflects theologically and psychologically on the issues of death, mourning, widowhood and God's will in people's lives.  The report examines these topics scripturally and historically. Research on the technique is discussed as are Christian objections to it. TM is deemed permissible for moderate use in some circumstances, and the hypothesis is conditionally sustained.  But concern is expressed about the religious (Hind] aspects of the Science of Creative Intelligence, the philosophy surrounding the TM program, and about the esotericism and secrecy in the advanced TM Sidhis program. Recommended are more scientific research and theological reflection on TM. Through survey and analysis of the self-understanding of a number of church lay leaders, the more significant factors are isolated and described. Results of the research indicate that family and sacramental factors are highest on the list of contributors to these leaders' development. Based on characteristics and functions of biblical persons specifically designated as 'servants of the Lord', the servant-model ministry includes the following dimensions: political leadership, prophetic address, priestly mediation, and suffering with the afflicted.  Energetic leadership by the church through congregational pastors and elders in preventative and rehabilitative programs is implied. Using a year-long sermon series based on the Psalms, the thesis shows that one can meaningfully tell the whole story of Jesus Christ as our faith is modeled to us in the Apostles Creed.
