This project developed the first part of a Chaplain's Academy that focuses on the 'Foundations of Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.' The project focus and scope were to plan, develop and lead the first four curriculum sessions of the Chaplain's Academy - Foundations of Law Enforcement Chaplaincy - and include the following elements: 1) The Law Enforcement Family, 2) Legal Liability/Confidentiality/Privileged Information, 3) Sensitivity and Diversity, 4) Ethics. Seven one hour and fifteen-minute sessions were designed, in which ten leaders took part. The training sessions addressed the following issues: understanding the emotional system of the church, positioning leaders to address conflict, analysis of the conflict through the five levels of conflict, analysis of the conflict through roles and communication study, communication skills, dealing with the problematic, and specific skills training for resolution of conflict. Rooted in the scriptural call for unity amid diversity, and built upon the work of others calling for unity in the church, the author proposes a model addressing worship, proclamation, community and service. Diversity is brought out into the open and affirmed rather than being discouraged or ignored. The research project invited participants to take nature photographs and reflect on them with a scripture passage, prayer or devotional thought. Each participant presented their photos and spiritual reflections to a study group for discussion. Using a narrative method, it explores the biblical and theological aspects of mission work and how it can be approached more effectively. The main thesis of the project is that churches seeking to do mission work need not only consider foreign countries, but can invest their energies and resources in communities within the United States. Three phases were incorporated into the project: research, development, and implementation. The research phase consisted of investigating various community ministry strategy methods. The developmental phase consisted of using the research findings to develop material for the project retreat that the student planned for group training. To make this paradigm shift, which is theological and hermeneutical in nature, the preacher does not try to dismantle an existing belief system.
