The hypothesis is that if persons could participate in a collaborative affordable housing pre-readiness program, eligibility for housing opportunities would improve and the church would become more effective in its mission to empower the community. A qualitative and quantitative research methodology was used with the congregation, community residents and community leaders to identify and measure barriers. The interviews, workshops, classes and forums addressed the issues that hindered eligibility with community agencies. The project focus was to develop a collaborative model on how to educate the community on the illnesses and symptoms associated with homelessness when internal church conflicts erupt. The mixed methodology was used to obtain the results through pre-test, post-test, questionnaires, personal interviews, and a focus group. The findings suggested that most participants did respond to being educated on the illnesses associated with homelessness. The team approach within the caring community seems to fit this need. The 'team' will be an interdisciplinary team whose goal is to provide a more effective pastoral care. As an ordained clergy in the United Methodist Church, one of my biggest frustrations has always been that the 'job' is bigger than one individual can successfully accomplish. The old adage 'two heads are better than one' rings true to me for Christian ministry. Through the years, many have felt that the laity understands pastoral care as the sole duty of the paid clergy. The scriptures clearly show that Jesus did not understand ministry as an individual endeavor, but as a team approach as he sent his disciples out to minister in pairs. Also, Jesus said, 'When two or more are gathered in my name, I am in the midst of them.' This is an expression of community gathering in Christ's name and ministering not alone, but with Christ in their midst. The praxis director designed and taught a six-week confirmation program based on the Apostles' Creed with a three-fold purpose of confirmation for those baptized as infants, a new believers' class for those baptized as believers, and an opportunity for youth to learn about the Christian faith and make a commitment. Teaching methods included: storytelling, lectures, handouts, questionnaires, journaling, discussion, memorization, creating hand motions, play, art, music, drama, and Scripture reading. It comprises assessing the family's relationship and their ability to support the inmate prior to their release from prison and reduce ex-offender recidivism. The researcher employed a six-week intervention model to assess the family's preparation. It highlighted challenges that families experienced in supporting ex-offenders and identified potential barriers. A qualitative research methodology was used to gather data from 37 respondents using interviews and questionnaires. The thesis of the project was that members at Longview Point were trained to share their faith using a canned presentation but were not confident in answering objections. They needed a foundation in apologetics to engage people in prolonged spiritual conversations. Through classes and methods of spiritual awareness, participants showed, from pre-test to post-test, significant change in understanding and moving Christian principles into praxis. The handbook provides practical advice from the pastor in crises, condensed guidance for funerals, and a primer on grief, including the years following a crisis. An annotated bibliography recommends further resources for the busy pastor.
