Most respondents want the gospel told at least once a month; many say it makes their worship experience deeper and presents an opportunity for evangelism. The context for this project was at Martin Luther King Junior Senior High School, Detroit, Michigan. The focus was on grade point averages, scholastics, attendance, conduct, and faith enrichment. The results indicated a decline in the male students GPA, while scholastics, attendance, conduct, and faith enrichment made a slight increase. The hypothesis was that through the Sunday school program, families could be better equipped to do faith development in the home. New curriculum choices, teacher training and parent resources were introduced to accomplish this goal. Pre- and post-testing of the parents in the church showed that the research project did provide the parents the resources needed to continue the Sunday school lessons at home. A case study was implemented to evaluate the experiences of those that participated in a well-planned series of consciousness-raising transforming seminars. The findings included a congregation that needed to be mindful of the dire plight of males in their community as well as a call to assist them. The families were cared for with support and compassion, decreasing their levels of anxiety and allowing the healthcare team uninterrupted opportunities to assess and treat the patients. Qualitative research was employed to test the model's effectiveness, by means of pre- and posttest, questionnaires, and interviews. The project's objective was to present a model for the church to lead efforts to reduce health disparities in underserved communities through collaborations with government and private organizations. Qualitative research was conducted to assess needs and measure project effectiveness, using surveys and interviews. This effort increased health education, outreach, awareness, and identified support resources within the community. The approach was phenomenological and the following instruments were used: Spiritual Evaluation, Sermon Evaluations, and Post Test Interview Questionnaire.
