Chapters 5-8 is a manual. Basic tools are discussed and their use demonstrated. The model is presented and followed with its exegetical features applied to a sample text. Leaders who participated in a thirteen-week small group used the Renovation of the heart curriculum by Dallas Willard. The participants completed pre and post-assessment surveys to ascertain whether the small group impacted the leaders and whether the goals of the project were met. Through qualitative research and considering the ministries of two illustrious, great African-American preachers, the dissertation demonstrates that congregational involvement in society increases church effectiveness, regardless of whether the style of ministry is priestly, as with Dr. J.H. Jackson, or prophetic, as was that of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The creation of an effective church in its fullness is, of course, a long-term assessment. Developing God's people into leaders who demonstrate Christ-like character is not only the greatest need in the world today, but also in today's church; therefore, developing competent spiritual leadership through discipleship must be its top priority. The following questions are answered: What can churches do to prepare men and women to develop into godly leaders? What can Waukegan Community Church do to become a disciple-making reproducing church? Will Discipleship for leadership make a significant contribution in helping Waukegan Community Church become a disciple-making, leader-developing church?
