The director researched effective equipping models, developed materials to lead a seminar, and conducted the seminar.  The concept of spiritual growth guides blended some of the aspects of discipleship, mentoring, and Christian coaching.  The director trained the select team in four sessions over a four-week period. The lack of application exemplified a drastric struggle in the church's educational practices.  Mentorships offered a viable key to effect change in the students' Christian spiritual growth through accountability and personal relationships. It emerges out of the author's desire to preach sermons that stimulate emotions and intuitions as well as the listeners' intellectual capacity.  Drawing upon Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, the author presented sermons incorporating diverse artistic media as a means of engaging various intelligences.  Feedback to these sermons was solicited through both written and verbal responses. The goal was to craft a rough draft statement of the church's purpose, mission, vision, and core values. This research showed integrating leadership and preaching facilitates pastors leading a congregation. A control group made up of core leadership was surveyed with an instrument designed to measure the group's ability to listen and comprehend a sermon. The same instrument measured the group's level of leadership awareness. An urban congregation participated in a two-year study to change its understanding and experience of communion from being individual-centered to being community-centered. Results indicate that, over time, this effort may lead to a change in the congregational mythos and identity.
