The cases are reviewed along four parameters that define basic conditions needed for a human being to be well and to thrive: i.e., connection, identity, freedom, and power; and from three perspectives: family systems using Edwin Friedman's work, individual psychology using Karen Horney's work, and spiritual theology using Ignatius of Loyola's Spiritual Exercises. It then traces some of the history of short term missions to the present.  A church-based study was conducted through a questionnaire sent to every EPC congregation.  The project also records information from interviews with leaders from there EPC congregations who seem to be doing short-term missions well. The implications of Jesus' ongoing incarnation are then explored. It was anticipated that completing the discipleship programs researched would strengthen participants' spiritual health in each of the six areas measured. It was discovered that the only area in which the programs studied strengthened maturing participants' spiritual health was that of 'Committed to the Lost.' Other significant discoveries were made concerning the affect of gender, church size and age on spiritual health. Significant contributors to spiritual health were also discovered. The project included research of the spiritual discipline of prayer and contemporary spiritual formation methodologies.  This research led to the design, administration, and evaluation of training sessions with the selected leaders.  Training included seven weekly didactic sessions on various dimensions of individual and corporate prayer, with additional assignments between sessions.  Participants assessed assigned readings  and maintained a journal throughout the process with assigned entries germane to the subject matter.  An eighth and final session assessed the participants' mastery of the subject matter and summarized the project material. The intent of this process was to equip the participants to lead the embryonic congregation in the arena of prayer, fostering a culture in which prayer is understood, valued, and practiced. It evaluates biblical and historical foundations, and then explores current Southern Baptist leadership practices. The outcome will be to have Christians observing everything that Jesus had commanded, which is the second part of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).  The project started with an examination of disciple-making disciplines and strategy-planning techniques in general.  The list resulting from this research became the basis for developing a strategy for making disciples for First Baptist Church, Wauchula.  Upon completion, the strategy was approved by church staff and the strategy-development team.
