The process focused on developing the spiritual discipline of listening in scripture, prayer, and community in aligning the leadership's core values, vision and mission. The leadership team participated in individual and group processes designed to transform listening. As a result, participants reported an increased sensitivity to God's self-communication through deeper listening in scripture and prayer. The first goal of the project was to develop five sessions to train the group.  The group was evaluated by a pretest/post-test.  The second goal of the project was to increase the project director's knowledge of instructional theory and practice.  The sessions were evaluated by an expert, through a group dialogue, and with the completion of a reflection paper. What begins as a major mission to reach the pre-Christian in a particular community will at some point begin to shift in focus. What was once directed outward has now turned inward. This process happens so gradually that the shift is not perceived by church leaders. If this inward-looking phase is allowed to continue, at some point disintegration will begin to take place. Some type of intervention needs to take place for a course correction. There needs to be a re-introduction of evangelism into the life and mission of the congregation. The project surveys both the academic disciplines of Black liberation theology and educational theory as well as their implications for Christian educational ministries within the Black church. It also gathers by questionnaire data from 20 youth who participated in two seminars concerning Black history and self-esteem. This paper seeks to understand what the factors were that resulted in such growth through evangelism and to discern what transferable principles may be applied in the contemporary church to promote effectiveness in evangelism. Research into how to lead short-term mission trips was used to develop teaching plans to equip the members of the group, who had the opportunity to commit to leading a short-term mission project within the next twelve to eighteen months from Stetson Baptist Church.  The project director used evaluation of the research from Philip Pinckard and Boyd Hatchel, training in writing teaching plans from Design for teaching and training by LeRoy Ford, evaluation of the teaching plans by Susie Lowry, evaluation of the training by Kevin Lowry, and evaluations by the selected group upon completion of the training. This project took a select group of staff and lay-leaders meeting in small groups and facilitated the development of their emotional intelligence and spiritual maturity. At the end of the process, the participants committed to reproduce this process with a group the following semester. Learning theory and sociological dynamics helped shape the small group atmosphere. The project rendered that character formation effectively takes place in a small group setting. The project included a quantitative and qualitative pre-test, post-test design that assessed knowledge, and awareness of the formational counseling model. The pre-test assessment showed students had little knowledge of formal counseling. Upon completing the semester long class, administering the post- test assessment revealed the success of this project.
