The test group included the elders and deacons of the Peachtree City Church of Christ in Peachtree City, Georgia. The focal point of the project was an eight-week leadership class. Two measurement tools were used: the General Self-Efficacy Scale Shearer and the General Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale. Significant increases were recorded in understanding of purpose. Corresponding to this increased mission clarity were minimal elevations in self-efficacy. Chapter one reviews the history of Emley's Hill United Methodist Church from its founding six years after the founding of Methodism in America in 1784 through the first two hundred years, which were most notably marked by a constant cycle of part-time pastors.  Chapter two lays out the polity framework of the United Methodist Church within which the author had to operate.  Chapter three cites pertinent readings that impacted the author's understanding of the setting and the problems faced.  Chapter four presents the project design, describing the work used in gathering the data necessary for renewal. This should be a time of great hope as it can assess its place in the Kingdom of God and plan for its role in the future.  Currently the functional ministries of the church are in question as to their effectiveness both within the local body and in their impact on the local community. This practicum/project is centered on the church as a manifestation of the Kingdom of God. As part of the Kingdom, the ecclesia can be evaluated and effectively measured as to its functional ministries.  In this project, the following steps were taken. The methodology employed provided ways of measuring the church biblically, theologically, practically, and in terms of its spiritual vitality. The chief finding was the need to break out of old patterns and practices of ministry. The psychological theories that are integrated for this thesis include Family Systems Theory, Structural Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. The thesis was applied to a young married couple with the use of the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis, The Personality Self-Portrait by Multi-Health Systems, and the Prepare/Enrich Inventory assessment tools.
