The project was fundamental to the life and work of ministry--the desire for spiritual growth, commitment, and excitement among the people. The researcher devised a ten-week preaching series and Bible study programme and a nine-week prayer course on prayer. The spiritual well-being of the congregation, Bible study groups, and the selected prayer course was tested pretest and posttest. This thesis studied the impact of the implementation of the acts of service central to Steve Sjogren's servant evangelism on attitudes towards the mission of evangelism for members of Hope Community Church. A change in members' attitudes was measured through data and methodological triangulation,  using personal interviews, observation, and testing, thus combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. Of the seventy-two evangelical and non-evangelical clergy couples who completed the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS) and the Index of Marital Satisfaction (IMS) self-tests, the main issues of concern identified were: financial, religious, and affectional. With minimal seminar and follow-up participation, after these self-tests, the Transtheoretical model developed by Prochaska and Norcross (2003) was incorporated. This dissertation seeks to answer questions relevant to how stress affects the lives of students, their spouses, and children. Research utilized a polling instrument and interviews of students at CIU.  The results indicate those who responded handle stress in a generally positive manner.  The major sources of stress were time demands, school work, and finances/debt.  The major symptoms of stress were tiredness, anxiety, and irritability. The methodology of this technique will be transferred to adult ministry. Unfortunately, churches in transitioning neighborhoods struggle predictably with how best to respond to the unique challenges and opportunities presented by changing demographics.  The project grows out of the experiences of a local congregation, Calvary Reformed Church, Holland, Michigan over an eight year period.  This project shows that is is possible/preferable for an established congregation to embrace a community undergoing economic, ethnic or cultural change. The discernment of this covenant relationship with God and each other was described through biblical exegesis, theological doctrine, contemporary writings and artistic expression. A lectionary study book on suffering and three specific psalms was prepared.  A diverse group of pastors was recruited to take part in the study and preach a three-Sunday sermon series on three lament psalms.  The goal was to move congregants from cultural forms of denial of suffering to a biblical theology of communicating suffering.  Response cards indicated that 40% of the respondents changed their beliefs regarding God and suffering. The primary premise of this project contends that if preaching is to be truly biblical, it must not only be biblical in its content but it must also be biblical in its pattern. Chapter 1 sets forth the purpose, goals, and rationale for this project. Chapter 2 examines the Biblical foundational for using illustrations in sermons. Chapter 3 considers the theory and praxis of using illustrations. Chapter 4 gives a detailed account of the project itself. This paper considered how to form these strategies by comparing the attitudes of present-day Serbs toward money and the church with the experience of churches in North America in relationship to money and discipleship formation.
