It takes a case study on an urban Chinese congregation in New York state with designed teaching material (six sessions) to be tested and evaluated as the method of research.  It concludes that Martin Luther's teaching on prayer is intertwined with his justification by faith and the Theology of the Cross.  Those who pray receive God's grace. Specifically, this mentoring was geared to four components of spiritual well-being: spiritual development/formation, physical fitness, intellectual fitness, and emotional/relational fitness. This research was a pilot test of a model that may be used in future leadership development. The training was derived from the growth model practiced at Saddleback Community Church, as it was implemented in Toronto, Canada.  The dissertation reviews literature relevant to church growth theory and strategy.  It includes two data gathering surveys.  These surveys measure growth prior to and after the training.  The model provided good insight into training lay people for ministry as church planters. This dissertation project was designed to increase the passion for lost souls in the heart of every participant in an Apostolic Leadership Model. The thirteen participants visited two apostolic churches, met in monthly meetings for two years, and read about apostolic churches that reach unchurched thousands. Semi-structured interviews were used to measure the effectiveness of the study on thirteen pastors. Group members completed the assessment survey the first day of the group, October, 6, 2004. The group completed the post test on the last day of the group, December 22, 2004. The results indicate that group participants experienced some spiritual growth and confirmed three of the five goals of this project.
