The developmental theories of E Erikson, J Fowler and H Straughn provide the framework for considering the development of an organic corporate entity such as a local congregation.  Reflecting on his experience as a church planter and his own maturation struggles, the writer develops the proposed paradigm.  Then, utilizing an open-ended narrative interview, the author presents case studies of three additional congregations to explore the applicability of his model. The project describes the development of a rotating church shelter in the community. From the initial planning to the evaluation of the effect on the community, this report describes the impact the church had regarding homelessness.  The success of this project resulted in the interaction between churches across denominational lines. Since racism was a major problem among the urban native people, he decided to begin his qualitative research with this problem.  He designed a series of six sessions based on the pastoral circle.  Meeting with groups of elders, adults and youth, he was seeking an aboriginal model for social action.  The discoveries not only revealed that the native people contributed to a deepening of the phases of the pastoral circle, but they also revealed a 'life cycle' which is analogous to the pastoral circle.  It begins with vision, moves through time, comes to wisdom or practical knowledge, and concludes with movement, which is the action flowing from the wisdom. Caucasian church members, ethnic adherents, and unchurched ethnics of the local community participated.  It was effective for increasing ethnic growth in the church. Increased cultural knowledge and understanding motivated Caucas to ethnic outreach. The project was designed to: encourage both partners to see decision-making on the basis of competency and shared agreement rather than on gender; see the financial management of the family as a shared responsibility; and build the couple's communication skills in order to enhance an equal companionship relationship. Based on the understanding that both male and female share equal dignity and value before God, the project was conducted with the presupposition that Nigerian Christian husbands can break through tradition to live happily as equal companions with their wives.  To accomplish the project objective, ten selected Nigerian marriage partners participated as an 'experimental group' in a marriage enrichment program. His presupposition that personal pastoral development in the five areas of spiritual growth, personality, church growth philosophy, leadership, and cultural relevance would produce a corresponding measurable increase in pastoral effectiveness proved correct.  He executed the project with fifteen Tucson, Arizona, pastors from August 1991 to February 1992. Twenty prospects from seven families were discovered in the door-to-door approach.  Ten prospects from four families were discovered in the bulk mail approach.  Nine prospects from four families were discovered in the telephone approach. Because Baptist missionary work started in Korea much later than other denominations, many of the Korean Southern Baptist church leaders come from non-Baptist evangelical backgrounds.  As a result, many of them are continuing practices of their old denomination under the name of Baptists.  These leaders need orientation and training to the Southern Baptist denomination.  The pastors and the church leaders who engaged in the project were trained and motivated to use the manual to increase their understanding of Southern Baptist distinctives, its programs in a local church, the denominational agencies and their missions.
