Drawn from both the theology of hope and those in the field of a psychology of hope, these resources were presented as an avenue for initiating or rekindling hope among clergy.  The research methods employed were both academic and practical.  The latter resource was from a compilation of the work presented at two workshops in the Western Pennsylvania Conference. An 'interpretative context' is present whenever persons attempt to communicate.  Therefore, preaching is affected by the interpretative contexts of both preacher and hearer. A 'gap' may exist that can impede communication between persons whose interpretative contexts are sufficiently different.  This project examined the contextual nature of preaching.  Study of biblical texts, prior to their development in sermons, afforded pastors and congregations opportunity to become aware of contextual gaps.  A sermon review process allowed for evaluation of the gap-bridging process. Three workshops were developed and carried out in the local church, the end result of which was the creation of successful visionary leadership methods among the laity. The overriding theme of the workshops was to teach adaptable leadership techniques, made applicable to the church setting.  The result of the project has seen the subject church begin to thrive. Ten centers were contacted, and after studying all their written material, interviews and on-site visits were conducted.  Four significant questions emerged and an analysis of the four factors was done. The recommendations by factor are stated.  Problems in operating a whole person health center seem insurmountable.  The majority of these centers are presently dealing with these factors. Methodologically project data was derived from survey and interview material using one school as a case study.  The statistical analysis was related to church-relatedness and coherence by reviews of literature in the fields of theology, epistemology, faith development, church-relatedness, and college curriculum development. The findings supported the important role of curricular and co-curricular coherence in church-related higher education. Data was gathered through surveys, written descriptions, and by personal interviews.  The research shows that there is a wide variety of experiences, many related to death and dying, regarded as important to faith; that persons experienced paranormal events; that the classic mystical experience is rare. Five hypotheses were tested: 1) participants will show a greater acceptance of the humanity of Jesus Christ, as indicated in a comparison of their pre- and posttest questionnaires and on their end-of-session questionnaires; 2) participants will be less likely to believe that Jesus was 'complete in his deity,' and more likely to believe that he was 'complete in his humanity;' 3) participants will develop a distinction between 'Jesus' and 'the Christ;' 4) an increased integration of their faith; and 5) a greater clarity in their understanding of Jesus Christ.  Hypotheses 1, 2 and 3 are supported statistically and qualitatively.  Hypothesis 4 is questionable. This study involved research into classic Jewish texts, findings in modern psychology and Protestant traditions, and the clinical experience of the author.  Jewish pastoral theology and care is based on sharing a cognitive empathy with the patient or mourner.  This is not restricted to clergy but is incumbent on every Jew.  The study also developed specific roles for the rabbi. The process receives supporting data from 20 churches exhibiting active prison ministries.  The report describes the basic outlines of the consultation process and supporting materials.  The outlines include an introduction to prison ministry, a means to identify and evaluate mission outreach programs, and the development of a mission outreach profile necessary for the examination of 'points of entry' for prison ministry. Nursing plays a critically important role in the delivery of patient spiritual care.  Drawing on both the history and literature of nursing and the descriptive statistical study of clinical nurses and nursing students, the project makes recommendations for clinical and education nursing sectors.  The descriptive study was designed to provide insight to demographic, educational, religious, and spiritual practices as related to the following dimensions of spiritual care: awareness, attitude, practice, and resource support.  Respondents indicated that spiritual care is important and that the practice of spiritual care tended to be more frequent among the theologically conservative, those who engage in personal spiritual practices and the older, more experienced nurse.
