It also examines the procedures which are currently used in the orientation of new missionaries of the Board in order to identify areas where improvement is needed.  Data compiled from a survey which was sent to a sampling of present and former missionaries of the Board was evaluated and analyzed. A large number of Lutherans were interviewed and tested as to their knowledge and attitude toward tithing and stewardship.  After an examination of the materials in terms of the historical context, with an emphasis on Luther's scholarship, conclusions were presented and a retreat was designed. The biblical concept, based on the word, 'oikonomia,' traces God's plan of stewardship from creation to living-out Jesus' teachings. Historical and informational STVIM material was combined with the personal experience of the author in leading STVIM teams. The material was evaluated by 55 persons related to STVIM. Korean scholars to date follow an old tradition which derives 'diakonos' from 'dia' (through) and 'konis' (dust.)  But this derivation is a case of confusion of 'diakonio' (pulvere, to in the dust) with 'diakoneo' (to serve.)  The author exegetes Acts 6 discussing the Grecian Jews, the Hebrews, and the Samaritans. The material emphasized history, doctrine, and polity.  It was designed for use by youth and adults in both group and independent study settings.  Research from the fields of documentary, creative, and objective studies was utilized in preparing the material.  The work was submitted to a panel of six judges from diverse backgrounds for evaluation. The Chinese community in North America is still a distinct community within a Western society, and has little Christian pre-evangelism factors to build on.  This ministry project was carried out first by equipping two laymen in continuing witness training, followed by three pre-marital preparation (pastoral) counseling training sessions.  The sessions dealt with such issues as reasons for pre-marital preparation, communication, listening, acceptance, Gospel, finances, and in-laws.
