The author and nine members of St John's United Methodist Church in Gbarnga, Liberia, studied the book of Exodus and focused on issues of contextualization.  They identified issues common to Hebrew and Kpelle cultures, and considered tribal elements such as proverbs, stories, idioms, and theology. It attempts to provide an overview of the current refugee situation; a profile of Hmong, Laotian, Vietnamese, and Cambodian refugees; an assessment of current problems and needs; a description of programs developed for refugees; and a model of servanthood ministry.  It creates for clergy and laity an awareness of resettlement issues and provides a launching point where congregations can begin to respond to the needs of refugees.
