The author concludes that the intern experienced andragogical learning about the issues studied; that lay persons can handle the method; that mathetic information about an intern's behavior-in-ministry can be gathered and displayed to aid the process; that further field-testing seems warranted by the findings. To better understand the interaction between churches, synagogues and the aging network, data were gathered from clergy and elderly in one community.  Of 48 churches, 34 (71 percent) clergy responded to face-to-face interviews.  16 Of 18 social service agencies also agreed to be interviewed. Of the many kinds of programs provided to the elderly by churches, visitation is the most common: all 34 visited congregants in hospitals and all but 2 of 34, when homebound.  Among social service agencies 6 of 16 provide direct visitation, meals or other services to the homebound. While concern for the homebound in this community is clear, even though a local coordinating counseling exists to coordinate services, we found no coordination of services between the churches and the agencies. It challenges assumptions and establishes a theological and psychological rationale for church loyalty, setting forth a detailed, systematic definition which delineates three degrees of church loyalty, identified as eros (self-gratification), philia (approval of community), and agape (sacrificial) types of loyalty, and sharply distinguishing the absence of loyalty from disloyalty which is viewed as destructive and unresponsive. The data was collected from sixty randomly selected ruling elders who answered the questionnaire.  It was discovered that there is a higher correlation between specific academic training and good performance than between life experiences and good performances.  One must not conclude that good academic training will cause outstanding elder performance. There may be a third factor influencing both.  A supplement to the study itself provides a theological framework for the raw data. The stated purpose of the project proposal was: to develop a ministry to families that will facilitate storytelling by families and individual family members.  The report describes how one congregation through a ministry of listening, assisted people in rediscovering and reclaiming their stories.  Leis, the author, assumes that the church has been called by God to be a seedbed and spawning ground for stories. Fifteen pastors and twenty-eight parishioners were interviewed concerning pastoral visitation.  There are biblical and historical reasons for the pastor to visit parishioners to share the Christian faith and to give spiritual guidance.  The majority of the pastors interviewed visit in hospitals and homes where there is illness or crisis, but not routinely all parishioners.  Parishioners want this pastor to visit them regularly, but by appointment.  They want the visit to be social.
