In 2011, Liberty Hill Baptist Church took a step toward racial reconciliation by joining the Southern Baptist Convention. Parishioners, some of whom migrated from the South, expressed concerns about joining 'that racist organization.' However, despite their concerns, Liberty Hill voted overwhelmingly to join the SBC. Buried in the pile of 1,145 resolutions from 1845 to 2017 are resolutions specifically impacting African Americans. These resolutions expand the narrative of Southern Baptist Convention life, culture, and faith and reveal God's redemptive power that has allowed the Southern Baptist Convention to evolve from an organization with a connection to slavery to one of the most diverse conventions in the United States."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716858702594048,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:09:04.948Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:13:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:14:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8f511063-ff42-451a-a755-90b7ea6dced5","accessControl_ssim":["29e7fab3-8958-4341-b370-ade8915b448b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Homily preparation for evangelization : the contributions of ethos and storytelling"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:13:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:19:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["10aada89-a543-4546-896f-20e1266f803e"],"hasLease_ssim":["46fb079b-e996-4472-9673-959e95813e91"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Edward Foley"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Yeonwoo Jeong"],"keyword_tesim":["Sermon preparation"],"publisher_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"subject_tesim":["Storytelling--Religious aspects--Christianity","Whitehead, James D","Catholic preaching","Whitehead, Evelyn Eaton"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis-project examines the contribution of ethos and storytelling to homily preparation for evangelization employing the model and method developed by James and Evelyn Whitehead in Methods in ministry for theological reflection. In addition, storytelling can encourage the assembly to listen to God's Word in their lives because life is easily understood in a narrative mode. In contrast to the Roman Catholic Church's teaching of complementarity--which designates gender-assigned gifts--the synergistic dynamic of mutuality was examined through philosophical, ethical, and anthropological lenses. Three contemporary pairs were interviewed, and three historical pairs were studied, specifically Francis and Clare of Assisi, Francis de Sales and Jane de Chantal, Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin. The researcher found that mutuality between women and men is a benefit for the church and the common good because it allows a fuller expression of the Reign of God to be experienced."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129013022883840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:08:57.090Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:13:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:46:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c05fa707-bdfb-4167-b988-f2ee44516449","accessControl_ssim":["e6413530-3f95-41f1-9660-db61f292de79"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'There's a gift in it' transplanted vocational ministers and the quest for belonging to Vancouver, British Columbia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:13:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:40:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a0b64046-1fc0-413e-9f04-321f0523351a"],"hasLease_ssim":["d5223822-f701-4ae7-8e1d-ee9ec7cc5035"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald C Guthrie"],"year_tesim":["2017"],"location_tesim":["British Columbia"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael N Hsu"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christians","Clergy--Appointment, call, and election"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Vancouver, British Columbia has a reputation as one of the most desirable cities in the world to live, yet a recent study revealed it to be a city where people struggle to develop belonging.
