Studies show that many believers consider themselves to be stalled in their spiritual growth and that they often view prayer as a duty rather than a delight. The purpose of this thesis-project is to explore the question of whether or not prayer that is based in an intimate relationship with God, using Scripture as its foundation, can make a significant impact on the spiritual growth of Christians. To this end, thirty-eight individuals participated in a six-week study using lectio divina in their personal prayer time. Of these, 95 percent reported some degree of spiritual growth. The students listening are the future leaders of America and other countries of the world. This thesis project develops a 'preaching workshop' for the new college ministers to give them confidence and skills to preach biblically on campus. Chapter two and three are the literature review and the biblical and theological background for the basis for preaching biblically to the university. Chapter four is a summary of the preaching workshop for new college ministers. Chapter five is the review of the workshop and suggestions for future improvements. The author sought to identify the needs of worship leaders within the Chinese-speaking church, to help students understand biblical mandates and instructions regarding the use of music in worship, and then guide them in using those principles to both evaluate material from other cultures and develop material grounded in and suitable to their own. The author constructed a curriculum to these ends and taught it at various Mandarin-speaking churches around the world beginning in 2005. The research described the inherent hazards of working within this ministry. A quantitative survey was sent to every officer serving in the Southern Territory to understand their felt needs. The research showed that children, emotional problems, and administrative expectations were at the top felt needs. The results also demonstrated that officers were hesitant to reach out to the administration because of fear of negative consequences. Combining these techniques with the Church Growth theories of Donald Gavran and his followers, the Church developed ideas of preaching to specific niche audiences and demographic groups.  In recent years there has been considerable conversation about what it means to be missional.  This thesis-project shows that the Bible presents a model of preaching that is appropriate to every age and culture.
