As we seek to live out this mission as a denomination and measure our effectiveness in doing so, the denomination has focused on local congregation vitality and its measurement. However, many across the leadership of the church increasingly agree that because of the decline of mainline protestant churches for well over fifty years, we still use an old paradigm that focuses too much on counting people in the pews and money in the offering plates and rather than the whole panoply of the aspects of disciple-making. Exploring this requires an understanding of personal struggles minority pastors encounter due to cultural differences, systemic barriers they encounter because of the pervasive influences of racialization in the American church, and the crucial role of the Caucasian leadership and congregants that impact the ministry of minority pastors in majority culture congregations. This study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with six minority pastors in the Presbyterian Church in America. The review of literature and analysis of the six interviews focused on three key areas that provided insights to how minority pastors overcome leadership challenges. The three areas of focus were: minority leadership challenges, organizational culture, and multicultural leadership competencies. This study found that the complexity of racialized patterns in the American church must be addressed in order to effectively overcome personal and systemic leadership challenges and thrive in majority culture congregations. The assumption of this study was that such an absence from work would act as a critical incident in the lives of ministers; as a result, ministers who had endured such a period of sick-leave would have considered their practice of self-care at a deep level and improved their self-care practices; such consideration and practice would be instructive to other ministers in the PCI and elsewhere. This study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with six pastors in the PCI. The review of literature and analysis of the six interviews focused on three key areas: stress in clergy; self-care in leaders; self-care in clergy. The study found that an absence from work due to a stress related illness is a critical incident in the lives of pastors, that it did cause them to practi  ce self-care, and consequently is instructive to other pastors. The study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with eight pastors who have served at least ten years in fulltime ministry. The unit of analysis was the critical incident method, and the resultant data was analyzed using the constant comparative method. The findings of this study confirmed that a gap exists between pastors' expectations, training, and practice of pastoral leadership. The project director utilized an equipping model in order to accomplish the goals for this project. The first phase of implementation for this project was to research the fields of missional worship and postmodern culture for the purpose of developing annotated bibliographies in those fields to be used as research standards. The second phase of the project was to develop a workshop curriculum for the equipping of a worship design team to address cultural and missional issues related to worship. In the third phase the project director taught the curriculum in a weekend workshop to a multigenerational group of participants in the worship ministry, including members of the worship band, praise teams, choir, and audio-visual team. The project was implemented with fourteen current and future leaders of Calvary Baptist Church. The project director did biblical research on the missional commands of Christ and general research on the missional mindset. Lesson plans were formulated and project participants were led through seven equipping sessions. Evaluation of participants' progress toward the missional mindset goal was measured with a pretest and posttest assessment instrument and a report time held eight days after the equipping session during an evening worship service at Calvary Baptist Church. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore how pastors use vulnerability in sermons to build the congregation's trust in their leadership. This study utilized a qualitative design with semi-structured interviews with six Reformed pastors with the primary preaching responsibility in their churches in the southeastern United States. Analysis of the literature and interview data examined how pastors assess the use of vulnerability in their sermons, how pastors perceive the relationship between preaching and trust, and how pastors determine the limits of vulnerability in their sermons to build trust in leadership.
