The project started with presentations of biblical and theological perspectives on preaching in relation to life situations and historical and sociological perspectives on Korean immigrants in parallel to biblical and other immigrants. The project continued with a survey conducted on a typical Korean immigrant congregation to reveal how sermons influence them and change their perception of what is going on in their lives. The project also included manuscripts of sermons delivered to the congregation during this process. The conclusion of the project was to display the value of sermons that seek to change lives as well as the importance of the faithfulness and humility of the preachers to the Word of God. A training manual for pastors and elders of DCU Kampala cluster of churches was developed following an investigation of Scripture and a literature review on pertinent subjects. Contextualization was attempted by integrating Ugandan stories, illustrations, case studies, examples, words, figures of speech, and cultural values and norms into the training materials and the implementation process, without compromising the precedence of Scripture. Lead pastors were challenged to design and implement a 52-week program for transforming their congregations and to do so under the mentorship of the author for the first six months. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the training materials and mentoring period. Results show that the trainees acquired valuable knowledge and skills, were motivated and challenged, and, in some cases, felt that they were given a fresh lease of life. I have used an Archival Educational Methodology including many interviews with physicians treating chronic pain and with patients experiencing long-term chronic pain. Advancements in communication and transportation have enabled people to live more dispersed from one another. This lack of proximity has created a commuter culture. This dissertation looks at the concept of community both biblically and theologically. The digital age has produced an abundance of technological communication tools. This work examines their importance in developing and in hindering community. The concept of 'missionality' as a key to forming community with traditional attractional churches is also presented. This project focuses on one particular United Methodist congregation and explores the capacity of silence to be spiritually transformative. The congregation was invited to participate in various modes of spiritual silence, including worship silence and centering prayer. The response of the congregation was assessed using focus groups. Using the equipping program model, the project included the development of a workshop consisting of six sessions which addressed the following topics: understanding biblical strategic planning, the need for leaders to strategically plan a process to make disciples, discovering strategic planning, strategic planning, strategic planning as a team and strategy vision. In preparation, the project director researched the field of strategy planning, received tutoring in curriculum design, and organized the ministry leaders of the church to participate. Workshop participants demonstrated an increased understanding of strategy planning skills.
