A focus group of eight members was enlisted to participate, including evangelism committee members, new Christians, new church members, and experienced leaders constituted the training group.  Chapter Two focuses upon historical and biblical examples of personal witnessing.  Using Christ as the model witness, one can learn how to be more effective sharing the gospel with clarity, confidence and compassion.  A suggested outline, entitled BRING OTHERS NOW, can be used.  Chapter Three discusses the context for the ministry project incorporating the results of demographic data related to the church and the surrounding area.  Chapter Four outlines the implementation of the witness training model. Twelve sessions of one hour each allow for small group discussion, personal study, and relationship building among team members. The nine workshops were designed incorporating biblical, sociological and psychological understandings of divorce.  Two test instruments were used in a pretest, post-test model to judge how much participants changed.  Progress toward a goal was judged by the participants' self-ratings. Using an adult learner model for the instructional process, the seminar is developed to help participants discover and apply several key skills for effective communication. These skills include: creating urgency in preaching, thinking creatively, connecting with an audience, observing rules of oral clarity, developing and using effective illustrations, learning to preach without notes, and communicating powerfully and persuasively through the mastery of various vocal and visual variables. The opening chapter of this thesis identifies the need for skilled Christian communicators in light of a media saturated society. The second chapter reflects theologically on the task of preaching, particularly highlighting the centrality of preaching in the redemptive work of God. A literature review is offered in chapter three analyzing published works in the area of adult learning and conducting workshops and seminars. A worship planning committee was enlisted and trained to provide diverse worship services.  A questionnaire was developed to measure the congregational attitudes toward particular elements of worship. The conclusion included insights about present styles of worship prominent among Baptist churches. They were identified as the praise and worship, the liturgical, the traditional, the revivalist, and the seeker service. Three non-denominational, multi-racial churches and one para-church ministry were identified as groups interested in receiving training for future church-based support programs for first time job seeker and the working poor. It was hoped that this project would stimulate ongoing relationships between church pastors, church leaders and congregational members, the working poor and first time job seekers. The project involved a pre-seminar test, a conflict management inventory, lectures on the theological and theoretical basis for mediation, role play, and case studies. Surveys, personal observations, interviews, and workshops were utilized focusing on worship in the Presbyterian Church in America. It presents an experience of group spiritual direction. In group spiritual direction a small group comes together to share life's journey, and to understand more deeply the place God has in life. A homogeneous group of adult children of Alzheimers's victims met for six weeks. The focus of the sharing was based on the third week of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The third week exercises draw the person's attention to the Passion of Christ. Being united with the suffering of Christ gave meaning to our own suffering with Alzheimer's Disease. Our parents were good people: why did they have to suffer so heinous a disease? The literature informing the dissertation project centered on the disease of Alzheimer's the scriptures prayed in the third week, and the question of suffering. The role of the caregiver is essential. Being aware of the needs of the patient is only part of the knowledge needed to live with Alzheimer's Disease; caregivers must be in touch with their own needs. The caregivers must be keenly aware of the importance of balance in their own lives in order to take proper care of the patient.
