A study of the nature of prayer reveals that its primary intent is communion with God, not the registering of requests. The task of this project was to lead the members of the Piedmont Park Church to develop stronger habits of personal prayer by deepening their understanding of its importance, potential and meaning. A prayer curriculum was applied during a six month period. Its seven parts included: sermons, meditations, prayer partners, mid-week services, week of prayer, video presentation and systematic pastoral prayer. Both the Piedmont congregation and a comparison group (who did not receive the curriculum) were surveyed before and after the curriculum to monitor any change within each group. While the Piedmont group indicated an increase in understanding the importance, potential and meaning of prayer, it indicated decline in actual practice. Conversely, the comparison group indicated a decline in understanding and an increase in practice. The length of the curriculum and lack of involvement by many members weakened the project."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135432518402048,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:59.198Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:33:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:40:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2645072a-8608-449f-9ee6-ef1dde77f989","accessControl_ssim":["cae56a9f-0464-4f79-a825-a8510698e815"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A faith enrichment lab for young adults"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:33:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:15:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["307e2e61-78a7-4135-b135-eb74e1647163"],"hasLease_ssim":["541dd084-4efb-442c-a7b1-c720cefbef99"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert Thomas Woodard"],"keyword_tesim":["Tests and measurements in religion","Practice (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Fowler, James W","Theology, Practical","Wink, Walter, 1935-2012","Groome, Thomas H","Church work with young adults"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The dynamics of James W Fowler's theory of cognitive faith development can be applied to a group situation to help young adults who are at dis-ease when caught between the ought-to's of their Church and their own existential experiences. Practically, the study applies the professional research and analysis to a specific circumstance -- that of the Fresno First Church of the Nazarene. The goal of the paper is to find biblically and theologically informed alternatives for increased church growth effectiveness. The project studies the following areas: 1) relevant historical, sociological and demographic data regarding the past growth patterns of First Church with special reference to the geographic area in which First Church is located; 2) past, current and projected changes in the growth patterns of First Church; 3) church growth principles that relate to the possibility of relocating First Church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719822643167232,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:56:11.582Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:10:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4756e640-d641-4058-a996-62a25b074919","accessControl_ssim":["be0d2b6f-1c90-42ff-92fa-aa52286f7369"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of the correlation between leadership styles and church growth in the Church of the Nazarene in north central USA from 1980-1984"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:13:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b7e3609e-56cc-4dcd-bdb9-f87f860088e1"],"hasLease_ssim":["b229048c-3ad2-4d6a-a333-bc9c4b72a607"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Nazarene Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Morris A Weigelt"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dennis Alfred Brenner"],"keyword_tesim":["Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Nazarene Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects","Church growth","Church of the Nazarene"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to examine the possible effect of leadership styles on church growth. It reviews the thoughts and expressions of some of John Wesley's immediate successors as well as an overview of Nazarene teaching on the subject."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131354075758592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:46:09.692Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:40:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"21f7a72a-7126-44d6-a9ac-9c10977ca640","accessControl_ssim":["c824f611-1e3b-45d2-bff3-15a196754c38"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Analyzing a local church ministry in terms of the justice reflected in the book of Amos to enhance mission and liberation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:08:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["66caa883-66f2-4059-8133-bb9fe9295bb4"],"hasLease_ssim":["9ccd02fd-e421-4ac0-bf73-da9f4ee6d511"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jimmy Jonathan Montgomery"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["System theory","Justice--Biblical teaching","Church management","Bible. It has been said that the Japanese church membership has not grown as fast as the church memberships of other countries in the Far Eastern Division. Why is the SDA mission so difficult in the country? In order to answer this question the writer surveyed, analyzed and interpreted the work of the church. He examined the pre-war and post-war political, geographic, economic, social and religious conditions of the country. The post-war church history was divided into four ten-year periods: restoration and advance (1945-1955); dependence on missionaries (1956-1965); transition from missionaries to national workers (1966-1975); and independence from missionaries (1976-1985). It is necessary for the church to grasp the cultural context of the country so that the church may develop an effective strategy of mission for the nation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135364047437824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:53.899Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:28:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"be0dbacc-116a-4857-8933-333609a572d2","accessControl_ssim":["40ad6876-f826-4cc7-8a6f-41bbc618e16c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["School refusal: its special Japanese features"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:36:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e0217c32-be37-49e1-9539-94ebda4fd216"],"hasLease_ssim":["8eb6d54c-801a-497d-a7da-a664a4f13447"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"location_tesim":["Japan"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Takayasu Mitani"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Developmental psychology","Families--Religious life","Education","Education and state"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["No abstract"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134015696142336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:28:28.011Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
