It provides 'course correction' for male-centered bias in Christian ministry. The study uses depth psychology as found in the theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. It takes a symbolic approach to Christian theology. Its three parts are: the feminine as mode of being; the feminine as archetype; and the feminine in religious experience. Case studies include: a pregnant teenager; a man who murders a girl; a misogynist clergyman facing mid-life crisis; a clergywoman discovering the Goddess."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133431794499584,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:19:11.159Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:21:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"629646af-b475-48cd-8597-e03dc47437ba","accessControl_ssim":["f3189c48-608c-43a0-a407-551f9e747f01"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Three types of religious belief: an exploration of religious belief in the context of psychotherapy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:01:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9f17ebed-90a0-47e6-b43b-b6a041fd5760"],"hasLease_ssim":["c82f14b4-ed69-4879-8147-0661ba022433"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["J Earl Thompson"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenneth C Ruge"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Belief and doubt","Case method","Psychotherapy","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explores the relationship between religious belief and psychic functioning. The hypothesis is that religious belief provides a healing and defensive influence in psychological change. The goal of the project is to help therapists better understand religious belief in its particular psychological context. By using three typologies with a case study method, the author finds that belief and affiliation serve intrapsychic functions unique to individual personality. When equipped with this understanding, the therapist is able to make better alliances and interpretations. It is the first stage of the psychotherapeutic process, and can help to locate the specific nature of a person's guilt, remorse, depression, and sadness. Confession, along with a call upon some power greater than one's self, plays a vital part in the recovery process of the alcoholic. It is a central thrust of the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. The pastoral counselor is a therapist but also a pastor, a representative of God. The element of confession becomes sharper in pastoral counseling because of the pastor's dual role. The latter part of the work presents the church as family. Through the use of the theories of C G Jung, this project suggests that the complex constellated around the deceased becomes an important component of the bereft's individuation. The paper found that an aspect of the counselor's identity which is not well developed has an adverse influence on the counseling relationship. An aspect of the counselor's identity which is mature has a positive influence on the relationship. The paper recommends that all who engage in pastoral counseling hold as a top priority the growth of these personal dimensions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133678920794112,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:06.836Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:26:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a070b71d-de17-4f8c-9373-1a41ac049a9b","accessControl_ssim":["21a57106-06c2-4d91-99bc-f66ba2e83076"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Marriage and family pastoral counseling"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:48:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6fe29ba7-e6cc-4ed9-a2f3-6358bf0b3281"],"hasLease_ssim":["d2d05402-042c-4341-9341-af1a0d5500d0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul Huss"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John Westfall Morrison"],"keyword_tesim":["Pastoral counselors and clients"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with families","System theory","Case method","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project studies the pastor's role as family counselor.
