It attempts to interpret selected concepts from communications system theory and neuro-linguistic programming which are applied within the context of such church functions as administration, pastoral care, preaching, and problem resolution.  Forty-four church persons were involved in this field testing, through eight workshops in Rhode Island and New York.  Prior to each session each participant read that part of the manual which was to be considered and applied the concepts in the manual through discussion and the playing of focused communicational games at the end of each chapter. Throughout the project report informal observations have been made relative to the field testing process, and the relevance of that process to communication in the church. The author sets forth underlying theological assumptions and looks at the catechumenate in its present form by journeying with one group of catechumens and sponsors from the precatechumenate in January 1982 to the celebration of Confirmation on Easter Sunday, April 1983.  Examined closely are the various stages of the RCIA: precatechumenate, catechumenate, special preparation (Lent) and mystagogy. Monthly teaching sessions, catechumen group meetings, sponsor catechumen sessions, service projects, liturgical rites, and Christian Living Days are treated.  The role and ministry of catechumens, sponsors, catechists, liturgical ministers, and catechumenate team are considered in turn. Friendships were pursued first among church members and then among those outside of the church from community and business contacts.  Ten class sessions were conducted which were comprised of lectures, discussions, role-play and outside of class assignments. Two lecturers from the community shared insights on making friends and how to overcome barriers. The purpose further is to explore the creative and dynamic tension between these three in global ministry, urban ministry, the life of the judicatory, and the life of the congregation.  One result of the study is the realization that mission itself is an agent of renewal for the church.  When mission occurs, the church is converted as powerfully as the convert.  The conclusion identifies leadership not as authoritarian or as managerial, but as a new style of leadership for a new time. The study concludes that the Mbarara Diocese's Eucharistic Centers' program does not accord with the ecclesiology of the small-community movement.  It contributes to the basic ecclesial community goals of the diocese by clarifying the theological and pastoral nature of the small-community movement as applied to Mbarara.  It suggests key issues which need to be dealt with in formulating a viable small-community program for the diocese, notably those related to the need for in-depth reflection about how current parish structures and leadership models should be modified to accommodate a BEC program. She then examined personnel structures from this retrospective stance.  She drew conclusions pertaining to each department which will promote care of personnel and accomplishment of the task for which the mission exists--Bible translation.  The author concludes that the organization's low termination rate (1.296 percent) highlights their current proactive management procedures. The Navigator 2:7 Bible Study Series was the methodology used in this study. Southern Gables Evangelical Free Church, Denver, Colorado, provided the test groups in which growth or non-growth in discipleship was measured.  Measurement of progress was based on a testing instrument developed around the Navigator 'wheel' illustration. Each principle was developed from exegesis of relevant selections of Scripture.  A worship project of five and one-half months involved the membership of the First Baptist Church, Laramie, Wyoming, as a test for the use of the principles.  Based on the response from worship surveys and use of worship guides, the principles were determined as valid for application in the three stated categories. Participants were given an opportunity to visit patient wards and to reflect upon their experience through the peer group process.  Participants were to read three books during the three months.
