Recognizing that there are many facets to preaching, i.e., preacher's persona and theological skill-set, this study attempts to settle on a localized operative theology of preaching.  A preacher's operative theology involves the preacher's specific influences that shape his/her preaching.  Some of these influences stem deep in the historical past, particularly to the Enlightenment, and eventually splintering in various directions.  Yet, there are contemporary emphases that can dictate a preaching style, emphases that energetically affect congregations along the spiritual pathways of healing, liberation and reconciliation. This localized operative theology of preaching finds restorative justice programs as an agreeable partner.  Restorative justice, as an aboriginal cultural contribution, stands against Western-style notions of justice, especially intent on punishment for offenses.  Restorative justice programs, assuming the form of a Circle model of dialogue, are designed to help participants heal and empower each other.  Circles are founded on the principle that social wounds are not isolated events.  This idea that crimes are connected to systemic problems characterizes a shift that leads to greater community responsibility in the healing process. The mutuality regarding the partnership between preaching and Circle models involves a pedagogical strategy in that both ministries reinforce each other.  Circles could continue the preaching conversation, empower a congregational preaching voice, help connect the preacher and the congregation, shape a communal theological reflection, help concretize theology, and help dismantle alienating ideologies by encouraging authentic feeling and positive values.  This Circle resource prevents an individualist pedagogy in regard to preaching in favor of the team concept. This phenomenological, qualitative study presents a curriculum that addresses shame and equips in contemplative prayer, scripture meditation, and soul care relationships to develop shame resilience. Twelve men and women participated in a spiritual formation group and retreat. All reported a noticeable and transformative increase in shame resiliance, and the ability to develop ongoing resilience strategies. As group members, ranging from new believers to mature Christ followers, share these life stories with one another, spiritual companionship deepens. The importance of individual growth and growth in community was evident in the author's spiritual autobiography in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 discussed models of spiritual formation, with a focus on Celtic spirituality, which is noted for its emphasis on community. The research conducted during the project as discussed in Chapter 4 also showed how one needs community in order to deepen one's relationship with God. This project demonstrates that the ministry of worship can be used to offer church council members a more clearly focused and more richly rewarding experience of serving in leadership. Evaluative research methodology was used for the design and implementation of this project, taking a small group on a Prayer Journey. Scriptures on Jesus' prayer practices were studied. Participants were to read about prayer, practice, update their journals, and share. Data analysis included a pre- and post-project survey to assess the participants' learning. Results indicated a deepened understanding about prayer and a desire to follow Jesus's examples. Their knowledge, attitudes and action regarding sexual morality were assessed using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire completed by thirty-two adult members of Olivet's Singles' Fellowship. The major finding according to the data revealed that singles are most concerned with the quality of relationships versus sex acts per se and whether those relationships are pleasing in God's sight.
