Utilizing 'Key United Methodist Beliefs' by Abraham and Watson, laity were theologically empowered and effective in helping non-members and non-baptized adults profess their faith and find a home in the church. The project involved inviting the members of two congregations to commit to a community celebration of the Sabbath for several weeks.  An initial survey assessed the community's current understanding of Sabbath and how it is observed.  Participants were encouraged to set aside engagement in commerce and work (broadly defined), and invited to join with fellow participants in worship and restorative activities. The findings indicate that using the one-year Bible helped the participants grow in their love for Christ and love for the Word. This study also saw participants grow in their confidence to make disciples and grow in their willingness to make disciple-making their lifestyle in following Christ. The first step of the project consisted of researching church and community demographics. During this step, the project director explored existing discipleship strategies of Christian churches and secular organizations. In the second step, the director led a discipleship strategy team to develop an adult discipleship strategy. In the third step of the project, the director presented the developed adult discipleship strategy to Oakville Baptist Church for approval. Oakville Baptist Church unanimously approved the adult discipleship strategy. However, very little research has been done on how these experiences impact the spouse. The focus of this research project is on the impact on the pastor's wife. This dissertation examines five case studies of wives of wounded pastors whose husbands have experienced conflict at their church resulting in them leaving their church. I have provided a narrative of each wife's situation as told by the wife. The narratives provide the context and thus provide clearer insights into the impact of their experiences.     To help us understand the impact, we examined the challenges pastors and wives face while in the ministry context as compared to after they were forced to leave. The pastor's wife's voice has been a missing piece in our strategies in preparing pastors for ministry. This project distills her insights, along with those of pastors and church leaders and gives us a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges pastors and their wives face.     This study includes tangible strategies to better equip pastors and their spouses to deal with the challenges of ministry. It provides information that can be used to develop ministries that support and encourage pastors and their wives when they encounter conflicts, are wounded and forced to exit from their church.
