The study then defines and evaluates strategic principles and practices of renewal for the contemporary church.  The study analyzes various models of renewal.  A tour of Canada provided input and insight from pastors and theologians for the thesis that the contemporary renewal movement is an expression of the church's return to its New Testament roots. The pastors living within the boundaries of the Presbytery of Northern New York completed a test and a questionnaire was submitted to executive presbyters in the Synod of the Northeast.  The author ascertained that burn-out and stress was indeed a problem.  Three specific projects were initiated for evaluation and testing.  They included a retreat, pastoral supervision model and pastoral/clergy support group. The project reports on a pilot study in which seven congregations participated in an organ donation educational program.  The author developed the program and trained the pastors to teach the program in the seven congregations.  One hundred thirty participant questionnaires were returned.  Sixty-five percent of the respondents reported that they had talked with their families about organ donation. At the heart of the project is a pilot program that consists of twelve afternoons over a six-week period.  Sessions include games, crafts, and other activities beneficial to children.  Both community resource persons and church members join in a ministry to the latchkey child.  The pilot program is a model for small congregations interested in outreach ministry. Drawing upon this experience, the core group engages in the training of others for this ministry.
