The pre-test was given prior to two workshops at which the writer conducted seminars on team building principles. At the end of a year, the post-test was given and the scores were compared. The hypotheses were that those trained in lifestyle evangelism would report more witnessing encounters and time spent in prayer for the lost than those trained in traditional evangelism. The data for this study was taken from weekly evangelism surveys filed by each student participating in the study. Research was performed in the area of public opinion, and an educational brochure was administered to a sample of fifty subjects along with a pre-test and post-test in the form of an opinion survey. The pastor and session proposed a hypothesis which was that the establishment of a positive sense of self-worth, which would come about as a result of better self-understanding, agreement of purpose and setting of goals, would reverse the decline.  The hypothesis was measured by surveys. Visible increased activity was noted as was a stronger financial picture, as well. A twelve-week, supervised, self-study course was designed to deal with this need.  The course consisted of twelve weekly themes presented in cassette tape lessons, each one divided into five daily sub-topics; a workbook; and a transcript of the tapes. These seven United Methodist churches are located in third class cities in Pennsylvania because these cities, being smaller in size, provide certain options of ministry which are not present in larger cities. Questionnaires were sent to 260 persons who joined these seven churches within the last five years. These questionnaires included, along with certain demographic material, vignettes of churces which elicited certain characteristics of those who choose to join inner-city churches.  From these characteristics a theological statement concerning the inner-city church and five possible strategies are described.
