The purpose of this study was to determine whether Christians who underwent four weeks of christo-cybernetic therapy would self-report significantly less depression than Christians who did not. Therefore, the project sought listener response to deductive and inductive preaching in the Pioneer Memorial Church in order to ascertain listener preference for one or the other of these two sermonic methods.  Eight sermons were preached that intentionally alternated between the deductive and inductive methods.  A group of randomly selected listeners reacted to each sermon through a standard evaluative questionnaire.  Based upon their responses, listener preference for deductive and inductive preaching was ascertained.  It was discovered that in numerous instances the listeners demonstrated a wide range of responses and preferences that prevents any categorical advocacy of one method over the other. A complex statistical study involving the chi square was used to determine the accuracy of the thesis.  A testing procedure employing the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Spiritual Orientation Profile was administered to 100 lay people and 100 clergy persons and the personalities and prayer lives were examined. Research into the biblical, historical, and theological roots of the sacrament led to the development of a theological framework which featured the primary aspects of remembrance, proclamation, participation, and thanksgiving.  This research also contributed to the planning of a study series, sermon series, and worship series which involved the congregation of First United Methodist Church, Moweaqua, Illinois, in a consideration of the sacrament's place in their faith experience.  Involvement in the project by this congregation led to a broader understanding of the sacrament, an enhanced experience of it, and a willingness to commune more frequently. Its foundational premises are: 1) that homosexuality is a naturally occuring variation of human sexuality, a gift of God no less than is heterosexuality; and 2) that the church is called to be the healer of souls and of society and to speak the word of justice and reconciliation on this sensitive issue. Supporting research includes a study of scriptural foundations for koinonia, the unique fellowship of Christians in partnership with Christ; reports on five examples of Christian community and elements of koinonia in group life; and examination of leadership styles which enhance koinonia. Results were compared with satisfactions and stresses reported by generalized ministers and secular psychotherapists.  A stratified random sampling of 200 pastoral counselors was mailed questionnaires divided into backgrouind information and three rating scales on satisfaction and stress.  Results showed pastoral counselors significantly more satisfied in their counseling ministry and personal life than those in generalized ministry.  Job involvement and concept of call held less satisfaction for pastoral counselors than generalized ministers.  Therapeutic work was most satisfying when pastoral counselors could learn and grow while being helpful to others. The stress of working with disturbed people, emotional depletion, and organizational politics contributed to making their practice frustrating and discouraging. Conflict is conceptualized as a process moving toward actualization of social entities when the conflict is properly managed and toward disintegration when the conflict is poorly managed or unmanaged.  This conceptualization is developed theologically, biblically, historically, and sociologically.
