Its central thesis is that the black church must fully embrace female participation in ministry if it is to be true to the liberating gospel it claims as part of its heritage.  A combination of historical and theological approaches, theory, and observation techniques constitute the methodology for this study. The model proved an effective means of helping officers understand and accept their responsibilities. The first part of the project was an examination of the meaning of reconciliation followed by a study of the meaning of the sacrament of Holy Communion in relation to reconciliation.  The second part was a fourteen session study with leaders of a Presbyerian congregation.  The group planned three communion services for corporate worship and surveyed the congregation following the services. Christian worship is the setting for retelling those stories, and within worship the arts add a new dimension which bring the stories to life for the worshippers.  The project is a practical and theological exploration of the use of mime as an art form used in worship.  A mime worship service was developed for a local congregation and a synod meeting to consider the thesis. The arts touch people on a different level than the preached word.  This added dimension allows people to participate in the stories. Thus, biography and autobiography may effectively be used to encourage theological reflection by adults in the church. The author proposes a four-step method for biographical theology, and applies it to group studies of the life stories of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and C S Lewis.
