The project then comments upon Australian cultural traits and analyzes a survey circulated in the presbytery of the central west aimed at discovering what people think about shared ministries.  Theological reflection analyzes ministry in a secular society and is illustrated by pen pictures and case studies. After a review of biblical, theological, and psychological literature, the lay board members of six selected churches were surveyed for demographic information, opinions regarding volunteerism, and theological beliefs. The pastors of those six churches were personally interviewed regarding the same items. The study concentrates on finding the basic needs of families by way of a community survey.  The findings of the survey resulted in the development of several possible responses a local church can make in meeting the needs of families. To reach out effectively it was discovered that people within the church needed to be equipped to do the work of ministry. A study of the reigns of Saul, David and Solomon provides models for the exercise of authority among the people of God. Special emphasis is placed on the paradoxical notion of success: Solomon, the most 'successful' of the Israelite kings, proved unable to preserve the united monarchy for his successors. To uncover these factors twenty-eight 'main-line' Protestant church members were interviewed, each having been a member of a rural or small town church at the time of divorce.  The interviews revealed specific factors that caused some divorcing people to leave the church and other factors that enabled some to remain active.
