It reflects on national and local Black educational needs, lays a biblical and theological basis for Afrocentricity, discusses Dellabrook Presbyterian Church's history of mission and ministry. This project also uses focus groups to measure the potential for Afrocentric public education.  This last data was analyzed and the potential for Afrocentric public education was evaluated with church based and community based recommendations.  This project is narrative and qualitative. These 'remarried' families were found to have many of the same needs as first, or in tact families, but also had unique needs growing out of the circumstances of either death or divorce, and subsequent remarriage. The data was gathered in a parish setting with several remarried families participating in structured interviews. These same families also became a study group using the curriculum that was eventually developed. These tools produced meaningful dialogue between church and community and birthed new ideas and concepts to deal with community concerns. A focus group of eight members was enlisted to participate, including evangelism committee members, new Christians, new church members, and experienced leaders constituted the training group.  Chapter Two focuses upon historical and biblical examples of personal witnessing.  Using Christ as the model witness, one can learn how to be more effective sharing the gospel with clarity, confidence and compassion.  A suggested outline, entitled BRING OTHERS NOW, can be used.  Chapter Three discusses the context for the ministry project incorporating the results of demographic data related to the church and the surrounding area.  Chapter Four outlines the implementation of the witness training model. Twelve sessions of one hour each allow for small group discussion, personal study, and relationship building among team members. The nine workshops were designed incorporating biblical, sociological and psychological understandings of divorce.  Two test instruments were used in a pretest, post-test model to judge how much participants changed.  Progress toward a goal was judged by the participants' self-ratings. Using an adult learner model for the instructional process, the seminar is developed to help participants discover and apply several key skills for effective communication. These skills include: creating urgency in preaching, thinking creatively, connecting with an audience, observing rules of oral clarity, developing and using effective illustrations, learning to preach without notes, and communicating powerfully and persuasively through the mastery of various vocal and visual variables. The opening chapter of this thesis identifies the need for skilled Christian communicators in light of a media saturated society. The second chapter reflects theologically on the task of preaching, particularly highlighting the centrality of preaching in the redemptive work of God. A literature review is offered in chapter three analyzing published works in the area of adult learning and conducting workshops and seminars. A worship planning committee was enlisted and trained to provide diverse worship services.  A questionnaire was developed to measure the congregational attitudes toward particular elements of worship. The conclusion included insights about present styles of worship prominent among Baptist churches. They were identified as the praise and worship, the liturgical, the traditional, the revivalist, and the seeker service.
