Favoring the insiders' perspective, it explores needs assessment and participant observation as tools for initial (outsider) pastoral listening in a Mexicano Catholic immigrant faith community in southern Colorado. Through a critical review of leadership research and a word study, it relates stakeholder findings to Joseph Rost's relational concept of leadership, as well as to Ronald Heifetz's leadership task of promoting adaptive change. The Mission Society informs the congregation of mission work and mission opportunities in the United States and abroad. The task of the Mission Society is to educate and challenge individuals to serve in missions wherever possible. A brief study of the congregation's constitution indicates that missions must be clearly defined as the prime purpose for the congregation's being. Further information reveals a variety of Mission Societies to accomplish that purpose. Many serve missions in concert with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, others serve agencies apart from Synodical structure. The theological study of 'God's mission' contributes to the scriptural knowledge of the student. Students discover God's worldview and His cross-cultural churches of the first century. The project provides assistance to the pastor in carrying out his ministerial task of Word and Sacrament. It increases awareness of mission challenges within the community, the Circuit, the District and the Synod. Foreign and local missions receive the benefit of the congregation's total participation in the undertaking. The goal of the study was to find ways to assist patients with these life threatening diseases to move from places of anxiety and worry to places of peace, healing, and wholeness.  The researcher found that story was the common element in the interventions that were most effective fro these patients. In contrast, sermons that carefully consider the unique faith perspective of a congregation create a richer encounter with the gospel for a particular time and place. This approach honors the priesthood of all believers through the collaborative crafting of a statement of local theology, and reflects the postmodern ethos of the American church by attending to the specific characteristics and perspectives of a local community of faith.  This study examines how one congregation crafts a provisional statement in the formation and evaluation of sermons. The study focuses on the question: What is a good death?  A single case study approach is used and the data are collected, analyzed, and synthesized using Narrative Inquiry Methods. It was concluded that Andy did have a good death experience and that quality of relationships are key in determining whether a person dies well or not.
