As this emphasis on preaching has become increasingly more important, reflected by post-conciliar documents and statements by the popes following the council, the question remains: has the seminary curriculum changed with this emphasis to ensure that the clergy are properly trained for preaching. This research project reviews the literature of evaluation of preaching over the last three decades along with the changes in requirements for homiletics in the five editions of the Program of Priestly Formation. The author developed a research tool using Appreciative Inquiry and interviewed homiletics professors at six Roman Catholic theologates in the United States to aggregate the 'best preaching practices' in these homiletics programs. The aggregated results demonstrate that in fact improvements have been made in the preaching programs. Hopefully, the aggregate of b est practices in homiletics programs of Roman Catholic theologates interviewed will encourage all Roman Catholic seminaries to work continuously to improve their homiletics programs for better preaching from the pulpits of their alumni for the people of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129952534396928,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:53.078Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:38:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6e04b4ad-777d-4ace-aa7b-e8d413251488","accessControl_ssim":["0a534201-8214-4185-8243-ec97c3c5ca43"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Impact of Ritual on an Administrative Board's View of Apportionment Giving within the United Methodist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:21:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["438c7962-4296-4373-b680-04e22fc227b3"],"hasLease_ssim":["cdfc6f70-b317-45ec-b45b-1457369a8004"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark R Teasdale"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. A pre-assessment survey was administered to the members of Princeton First United Methodist Church's Administrative Board to determine their awareness of missions supported by apportionments, the purpose of apportionments, and how effectively apportionments were used by the Northern Illinois Annual Conference. Then, a ritual of apportionment giving was implemented the first Sunday of each month, for three months, following Holy Communion. Subsequently, phone interviews and a post-assessment survey were administered to the Board to assess the impact of the apportionment ritual. This thesis project focuses on one immigrant group and their children: U.S. Catholic Hispanics. It attempts to respond to the challenge of these Hispanic parents attempting to hand on the Catholic faith to their children. It makes the unexpected claim that preaching is essential part of helping these parents address this difficulty. Chapter 1 describes the demography of the U.S. Catholic Church in 2018. The influx of Hispanic immigrants is set in the context of a larger influx of immigrants, such as Asians, Africans, and Pacific Islanders. After considering this broad context, this thesis focuses on Hispanic Catholics and the religious education level of their parents and children. The problem is that Hispanic parents are not transmitting the Catholic faith to their confirmation teenage children. That is one reason among others why their teenagers and young adults disengage from the Catholic Church. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate through catechetical preaching that Hispanic parents can learn skills to transmit the Catholic faith successfully to their confirmation teenage children. Chapter 2 provides the necessary background for the thesis project's intervention: Hispanic Catechesis in the U.S. in 2018. Before arriving at this goal, however, it is necessary to examine the Catholic Church's understanding of catechesis and interculturalism. Effective catechesis will involve not only appropriate pedagogies but also a cultural analysis of the society in which catechists teach. Chapter 3 starts with the history of the Catholic homily from Vatican II until the papacy of Pope Francis. Next, the chapter introduces catechesis and discusses whether the Sunday homily should be catechetical in nature. These two themes then lead to the culmination of the project: cross-cultural catechetical preaching to Hispanic parents in 2018. The principal investigator will attempt to paint a portrait of this complex reality. Chapter 4 describes the intervention. The principal investigator developed a thirteen-week course for Hispanic parents and their confirmation children. He employed the tool of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) at the beginning of the course and interviewed all parents and their children both before and after the course. He also took field notes during the course to note observations of growth both in parents and in their children. He then analyzes the qualitative research for the thesis project: the initial two sessions of AI, initial interviews, and final interviews. Chapter 5 presents the final product created from the thesis project's research data. The product is a syllabus for a thirteen-week course for Hispanic parents and confirmation teenagers during which the religious education instructor preaches catechetically to Hispanic parents and their confirmation age children."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130171567243264,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:27:21.964Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:22:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"91c66a13-d772-450b-88a2-e25eb2a7a967","accessControl_ssim":["f10f1463-2851-4274-81d3-7b39608f66fb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An Integrated Approach to Spiritual Direction: Converging Spirituality, Creativity, and Cognitive Theories through the Expressive Arts as a Model for Christian Spiritual Formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:24:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3ff3eedc-9e2b-47a2-955a-3ff2952acb9b"],"hasLease_ssim":["b9473eb2-3bc9-4044-ba8a-9301671f7047"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark Chapman"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Russea-Pihulyk, Ouida A."],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual direction","Spiritual formation","Spiritual life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["True spiritual formation is holistic. The author concludes that teaching the art of storytelling has the potential to help the mainline church reclaim the practice of evangelism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7d2ba5b6-aeec-459a-aaec-e1eed75d32f0"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134313860825088,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:33:12.363Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:11:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"51e9b2f6-b6f7-434b-9051-447c9563bbe2","accessControl_ssim":["e9199151-25ee-41da-9f4f-d1f02695fded"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sharing the Eucharist: Anglican Participation in Roman Catholic Liturgies"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:31:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1e9d6e68-73a0-4ff5-a7b8-230e59bfc0ad"],"hasLease_ssim":["ef4c0313-4374-43d0-ba06-bcba49887fc0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard McCarron"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The methodology is derived from a process proposed by James and Evelyn Whitehead in Method in Ministry. The argument is made that Anglicans should be provided the same access to Roman Catholic Eucharistic communion as that provided to members of the Orthodox churches. Alternatively, it is argued that Anglicans be invited to receive Eucharistic communion at specific Roman Catholic liturgies that they are invited to attend, including marriages, funerals, and baptisms. Further, it is argued that Anglican spouses of Roman Catholics should have greater access to Roman Catholic Eucharistic communion than is now provided."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129202912657408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:11:58.183Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:31:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e0f0c6f0-2777-4a6e-887d-58a54fd6a98a","accessControl_ssim":["6ae49f7f-2714-41e3-a1fb-e717b1a38a5b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Improving Cultural Awareness with Multi-cultural Ministry Leaders of First Southern Baptist Church, Phoenix, Arizona"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:34:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f73b69d3-162e-4309-857e-acd4b2cba6cd"],"hasLease_ssim":["467c68a9-49c6-4a4b-bcab-1747ebbb5b49"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gateway Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jim Wilson"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"location_tesim":["Arizona"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Based on a review of the literature, there are three major areas of Christian development that are linked to the metanarrative of Scripture: (1) comprehension of the Bible, (2) hermeneutical aptitude, and (3) positive attitudes towards Scripture. It was hypothesized that a course on the metanarrative of Scripture would demonstrate associated increases in these three areas. This project developed such a course for Ethnos360 Bible Institute, and measured the effectiveness of this course to impact areas of hypothesized growth. The method chosen for this research project was a program development and evaluation. Informed by the literature and consultation with various Bible teachers and missionaries, a course was created that developed the major plot-line of the Bible and called attention to the ramifications of that plot-line to comprehension, hermeneutics, and attitudes/values. To measure the effectiveness of this course, an instrument was developed and implemented as a pre-test/post-test. The instrument provided quantitative data that was analyzed and evaluated in this project. The data verified all three of the hypotheses, finding statistically significant increases in biblical comprehension, hermeneutical aptitude, and appreciation among students who took the course. Understanding the Bible as one over-arching story is a vital part of the Christian's development, enabling them to handle the Word of God in a responsible manner and find their place in the Story of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130770681626624,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:36:53.324Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
