This thesis was tested through a survey of 106 international students at the University of Texas.  Survey items were drawn from writings by authorities from each of the major religions on the subject of prayer.  Buddhist, Catholic, and Hindu students conformed to official profiles for less than one-third of the measured items, suggesting greater religious independence. In May 2010, the congregation took the Gallup ME25 survey. Case studies were conducted on churches that had made similar efforts. A resurvey in November 2011 occurred following efforts to focus on people's strengths. Meaningful increases were found on multiple items with many increased responses. Overall engagement of the congregation increased, while not-engaged and actively disengaged percentages decreased. This study sought to design, implement, and evaluate a workshop to train ministers in the use of technology in ministry.  Pre- and post-assessment instruments measured changes in attitude, knowledge, and skill occurring in workshop participants.  The post-assessment instrument also measured the participants' satisfaction ratings of course design, content, and methodology. Thirty-one ministers, varying in age and ministerial experience, participated in the nine-hour workshop covering five areas of technology in ministry:  publication, communication, presentation, research, and administration.  Workshop design included presentation, demonstration, and simulation through lab experience. Significant positive changes occurred in ten of fourteen attitude items measured, twenty-two of twenty-three knowledge items, and all twenty-three skill items. After a review of biblical, theological, and psychological literature, the lay board members of six selected churches were surveyed for demographic information, opinions regarding volunteerism, and theological beliefs. The pastors of those six churches were personally interviewed regarding the same items. Two questionnaires were used in a quantitative analysis: Parental Bonding Instrument (modified), and the Valuegenesis survey. The findings revealed that bonding factors for Adventist young people can be determined.  A reliable bonding scale was constructed from six items measuring commitment to Jesus, religious faith, the local congregation, and the denomination as well as frequency of attendance at worship services.  The scale had a reliability alpha of .81 with item scale correlations ranging from .45 to .72. Two surveys were employed: an eight item survey was sent to district superintendents; and a sixty item survey was sent to pastors.  The superintendents reported that these pastors served credibly in two capacities: pastoring small churches and as new church planters.  The pastors were married men in their late twenties or early thirties.  Most had some form of formal pastoral training, half having completed seminary.  All found pastoring to be satisfying. Comparison and correlation of factors and items found a positive attitude about life and more so about congregations.  Men want to feel more useful to their congregations.
