  • Preparation for church membership through a process of confirmation education will effect the future involvement and participation in the life of the church to varying degrees depending upon the type of confirmation education experienced. Programs emphasizing community, participation and shared leadership will result in greater future involvement. Persons experiencincing two contrasting styles of confirmation education were surveyed ten years after their confirmation. The differences in the levels of involvement were not major but those who had experienced a confirmation education program emphasizing community and service were somewhat more involved in the life of the church ten years later and showed a more positive attitude regarding their confirmation experience.
