Abstract

The thesis states that the pastoral counseling center can be a resource for ministry in the parish. The method of study was to develop and implement a seminar for pastors serving in the local parish. Initially consisting of four core segments (crisis intervention, brief pastoral counseling, daily relationships with parishioners, and the pastor's own self-understanding) the content of the seminar was significantly adapted based on preliminary interviews with 130 pastors, 5 seminary professors, and 15 staff members of PC&CC of Greater Washington. The conclusion reached in the study is the need to address the issues of the pastor's needs as a person and his/her relationship to difficult church members.
