  • The scope of the project included an examination of the history and philosophy of leadership from social science literature and the management field (Drucker and Peters), as well as an inductive study of the four Gospels to discover what Jesus taught and exemplified on leadership. Questionnaires were sent to 150 (99 returned) Presbyterian pastors. The findings of these three studies were then correlated. The results suggested 5 major styles of leadership: charismatic (Weber), dictatorial, participative, democratic, and laissez faire. Presbyterians use styles 3 and 4 more, although 30 percent are at the dictatorial end of the leadership continuum.
