Abstract
  • Readers of the dissertation/project will explore reasons why the institutional church has failed to provide an affirming environment in which adolescents can make the transition into young adults. The reader will discover that young adults' faith requires an appropriate language and framework to intersect their faith with the socio-cultural milieu. Exploration of how a developing faith and the existential struggles of a young adult intersect was done through a journaling and group experience, using a group of young adults from the western suburbs of Sydney. It was found that young adults are in a liminal period and require a specific ministry that uses a mentor figure to shape their personal dream. Such figures provide an environment for the transition into adulthood.
