- Abstract
- This work studies church attendance drops in youth ages fourteen to eighteen after receiving Confirmation at an Episcopal Church in Louisiana. The drop produces progressive distancing from the rootedness of Christianity, a propensity to become secularized, and the loss of relationships that formed these youth as children. This paper studies whether there is a connection between the way churches understand and prepare for Confirmation and possible reduction in attendance after it. The problem is analyzed through Holy Scripture, the Great Tradition of Christianity, and the experience with Confirmation of ten youth and thirty adult parishioners who participated in the research.
