Abstrakt

The author studies the development of religious thought up to the icon as a symbol of Holy Language for East and West. The project comprises: Judaic, Greco-Roman historical, philosophical, and artistic expression. Followed by Christology, Ecclesiology, History of Icons, Iconoclasm, Church Councils, Inculturation, Eucharist, Mary, and Icon development and presentation. The author explains the use of icons in liturgy, and as effective tools in religious spirituality and mystical experience. The icon Mater Ecclesia - Mother Church, portrays Mary-Theotokos stepping down from the Cross. She presents to the redeemed humanity her Son, Jesus the Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
