- Abstract
- This project brings more clarity to the confusing issue of how one becomes a member of the Christian church. The author hypothesized that this might be accomplished by substituting three rites of spiritual passage for the customary infant baptism and confirmation. Drawing on the liturgies of the Roman Catholic, Lutheran, and United Church of Canada and the work of developmental psychologists he designed three rites of passage and tested them in his congregation over a period of two years. The results of the evaluations indicate that the direction taken was judged to be positive.
