- Abstract
- Christianity is founded not upon abstract theological principles, but in experience related through story. The biblical sagas were mythic containers of truths which were primary and immediate. Their relevance to the journey of the individual soul was unquestioned. This is no longer true. The historical progression of western Christianity has led to a constrictive orthodoxy based upon assent to stated dogma. A return to faith as primary inner experience requires a rediscovery of symbols and archetypal themes as they are carried in myth and fairy tales. Jungian psychology provides insights into this enterprise and suggests possibilities for parish renewal.
