Abstract
  • This project and report stated a particular goal shared by church-related higher education and campus ministry--the preparation and engagement of students, faculty and staff for addressing the pain and suffering of the world. The project drew heavily on the writings of Jurgen Moltmann, Walter Brueggemann and James Fowler. One hundred seventy-three faculty, students, staff, college Executive Committee members, trustees and members of the Council on Church Relations participated in discussion groups focused on a position paper written by the chaplain. The outcome was a mission statement for the office of the chaplain which, drawing on the history of the office, reflected their almost unanimous agreement with the thesis.
