Abstract

This project demonstrates how the adult Sunday School Departments at Chapel Grove Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina, will be enhanced by a study that includes the history of the Sunday School, appreciation of why one should study the Bible, various ways to prepare for lessons, development of a purpose statement, focus on the need for organization, and development of a care group ministry. An explanation and understanding of the 'bow tie' theory of church growth and the development of a five-year growth strategy will also be presented. The project leader will lead an eight-week training period with the adult Sunday School teachers after the evening worship service. Each session will last approximately one hour. The sessions will seek to expand the teacher's knowledge of the importance of Sunday School as well as seek to improve the organization of the Sunday School program at Chapel Grove Baptist Church. This project, upon completion, will provide the Sunday School ministry at Chapel Grove Baptist Church a strong foundation upon which to build for the future. The goal is to provide a plan that will not only impact the present but also the future. The project leader seeks to make a lasting contribution to the teachers and leaders at Chapel Grove Baptist Church so that they can make an even bigger difference in the lives of their students.
